AUDITION NOTICE MONDAY JANUARY 12, 2009  
     

PAN ASIAN REPERTORY THEATRE, Tisa Chang Artistic Producing Director, with Tim Dang, director, Sachi Oyama, playwright, Nathan Wang, composer, and Aaron Coleman, lyricist, will be holding:

Equity Principal Auditions on Monday January 12, 2009

for IMELDA, A NEW MUSICAL

Seeking Equity members - versatile actors who act, sing and dance very well, to portray Filipino characters for LOA production tentatively planned for Sept production.

Actors should bring 16 bars of own song from musical theatre genre and be prepared to read from sides of monologues or scenes from show which will be available at AEA on day of audition.

Non union members can show up and be assigned by AEA monitor if time permits.

Set against the backdrop of modern Filipino history, IMELDA traces the rise of a beauty pageant contestant to become First Lady of the Philippines. It is an involving portrait of a powerful and controversial figure, and her fall from grace.

Cast of 12 actors who must all act, sing and dance very well. Most roles will double in other scenes.

Roles:

1. Imelda Marcos – female Asian – wife of Marcos- ages from 20's to 50's. Sense of determination and humor; excellent singer and dancer.

2. Ferdinand Marcos - male Asian - ages from 20's to 50's, baritone; charismatic, handsome; becomes President of Philippines

3. Ninoy Aquino - male Asian - ages from 20's to 50's, high baritone; strong singer, actor; senator trying to defeat Marcos; once infatuated with Imelda.

4. Corazon Aquino - female Asian - ages from 30's to 50's, deep alto; wife of Ninoy, she later succeeds Marcos as President.

5. Verti (Muse 1) – female Asian, 20’s; high belt; must be able to harmonize, strong dancer.

6. Luz (Muse 2) – female, Asian, 20’s; must harmonize, strong dancer.

7. Ulli (Muse 3) – female Asian, 20’s mezzo; must harmonize, strong dancer.

All 3 muses play multiple characters.

8. Mayor of Leyte – male Asian; 30’s must sing and dance; will double in other roles.

9. Beauty Contest Announcer– male Asian 30’s to 40’s ; part comedian. Must sing and dance.

10. Peasant Father – male Asian 40’s ; must sing, dance; double as assassin.

11. Peasant mother – female Asian, 40’s ; must sing and dance.

12. Peasant Daughter - female age 12-15;
double as Dovey Beams – 20’s, Mistress of Marcos; must sing and dance.

(Please note there are 2 versions of each song, one which includes the melody and one without. If you are singing Ninoy, the "Butterfly for Ferdinand" would be your "no melody version," and if you are singing Ferdinand's part, the "Butterfly for Ninoy" would be your "no melody version.)
