5th Annual Lilah Kan "Red Socks Award"
presented to Orville Mendoza |
| |
At the Julia Miles Theater, following
the matinee performance of IMELDA.
The Annual Lilah Kan “Red Socks” Award has been presented
for the past four years to an appreciative and deserving theater
artist. This list includes: Rosanne Ma '05, Lloyd Suh '06, Nicky
Paraiso '07 and Ernest Abuba '08. Along with a check for $1,000,
each recipient has received an elegant plaque designed by the
artist Carol Sun.
The goal of this award is to celebrate and continue the spirit
in which Lilah shared her home, love and life with artists from
all walks of life, but specifically honors an Asian American artist
working in the New York City theatrical community. The “Red Socks”
Award reflects the personal journey of Lilah Kan - who amidst
pursuing her own career in theater always found time to open her
home for scores of artists (David Henry Hwang, John Lone, Maxine
Hong Kingston, Mako, Frank Chin, Victor Wong, Phillip Kan Gotanda
and Kim Miyori to name a few) who were making their way in the
NY theater world. Lilah’s trademark gift of presenting a pair
of Red Socks to an artist on opening night is well known and remembered
by many.
